Koh Lanta, Krabi 19 December 2016 - Layana Resort & Spa, in its ongoing efforts to enhance our guests’ experiences, is always mindful of the impact of its development programs on the environment and local communities, both on Koh Lanta and nearby. Backed by MBK Group, we are committed to fostering strong relationships through projects and improvements that are conducive to all parties and provide support to those that do not benefit directly from the tourism income of Koh Lanta.

During 2016 we were delighted to complete our investment in the restoration of the pier at Baan Rar Mard, a small village situated on the Krabi province mainland. Through this, Layana is now able to offer its guests a private departure point for the short, and impressively scenic speedboat journey to the resort (available between November and April). For the village, the new pier provides much improved facilities for its own fishing industry, on which it depends, as well as an opportunity to sell local OTOP products to our guests, who can, in turn, experience for themselves a typical Thai village life style. This restoration follows on from previous projects at Baan Rar Mard that included providing the village school with new computers, renovating the school’s nursing room and planting over 1 rai of land with coconuts to provide future income for the community.

The story of Baan Rar Mard is at the core of a new ‘welcome’ video we have just completed, a 30 minute ‘tour’ around some of Koh Lanta's attractions, that will entertain our guests on the journey down from Krabi International Airport.
